Blood and urine have long been the most used biological samples for the analysis of drugs of abuse. The incorporation of drugs into these fluids is well known, and their analysis and interpretation of results have become routine in toxicology laboratories. Nevertheless, in recent decades alternative samples have begun to be used because they offer many advantages over conventional samples in the analysis of toxic substances.
