Charles River Laboratories (MA, USA) have acquired the CRO, Brains On-Line (CA, USA). Brains On-Line focuses on providing data for new therapeutics in the treatment of CNS diseases. Currently, Brains On-Line has facilities in San Francisco, the Netherlands and Germany.

The CRO, Brains On-Line, provides clinical data regarding in vivo efficacy and pharmacokinetics testing required to advance CNS therapies. James Foster, Chief Executive Officer at Charles River Laboratories, commented: “The addition of Brains On-Line strategically expands Charles River’s existing CNS capabilities and establishes Charles River as the premier single-source provider for a broad portfolio of discovery CNS services.

“In addition to enhancing our ability to support clients’ early-stage drug research in this critical therapeutic area, Brains On-Line expands our geographic footprint. This increases the opportunity for clients to work side-by-side with Charles River’s scientists, both in Europe and in the South San Francisco research hub.”

In total, Charles River Laboratories purchased the company for approximately 18 millions euros, in addition to the initial purchase payment of 6.7 million euros.
