Call for Papers for Toxicology Communications

Toxicology Communications is currently inviting submissions for its latest Article Collection titled ‘Computational toxicology for exposure science and risk assessment: from mechanistic modeling to regulatory translation‘.

About the Article Collection

This Article Collection aims to showcase cutting-edge research at the intersection of computational toxicology, exposure assessment and regulatory decision-making. Emphasis is placed on methods that bridge molecular-level information with real-world exposure data to support hazard identification, dose–response assessment and risk characterization. Recent developments in physiologically based kinetic modeling, quantitative structure–activity relationships, read-across approaches and AI are transforming how toxicological evidence is generated, interpreted and applied.

The collection welcomes interdisciplinary contributions that advance methodological innovation as well as applied studies demonstrating regulatory relevance. Submissions may draw from toxicology, exposure science, bioinformatics, environmental sciences and data science, provided they contribute to a more predictive, transparent and mechanistically informed assessment of chemical safety.

By bringing together leading and emerging research in computational toxicology, this Article Collection seeks to stimulate scientific dialogue, foster collaboration across disciplines and support the translation of advanced computational methods into regulatory and public-health practice.

A particular focus of this Article Collection is the integration of computational approaches into next-generation risk assessment frameworks. This includes the use of (quantitative) in vitro–in silico extrapolation, adverse outcome pathway networks and exposure-driven prioritization strategies that align with international efforts to reduce animal testing while maintaining high standards of human health protection. Computational tools also play a pivotal role in addressing uncertainty, inter-individual variability and cumulative exposure to chemical mixtures — key challenges faced by regulatory agencies worldwide.

More about Toxicology Communications

Toxicology Communications is an open-access, international, peer-reviewed journal, aiming to publish high-quality and timely content on all fields of basic, forensic and clinical toxicology. Publishing original research, case reports and critical reviews, the journal is of premier interest to clinical and research toxicologists, pharmacologists and forensic toxicologists, in order to aid the identification and assessment of health hazards and risks.

Topics of interest include, but are not limited to:

  • Toxicity profiles of pharmaceutical agents
  • Exposure to environmental and occupational agents
  • Therapeutic methods and interventions to treat toxicity and associated complications
  • Pharmacokinetics and pharmacodynamics of toxins
  • Epidemiology of toxic events and their long-term complications
  • Novel diagnostic tests for the detection of toxins

Please review the journal’s Aims and Scope and author submission instructions prior to submitting a manuscript.
