New technology analyzes size and concentration of lupus biomarker proteins

Written by Campbell Brooks

Researchers have developed a technology that can calculate the size of protein biomarkers as well as their concentration. Since the size of immune proteins can significantly increase their potency, this technology may assist the diagnosis and prognosis of Lupus in clinics. Utilizing biomarkers to analyze the progression of autoimmune diseases such as systemic lupus erythematosus (commonly known as lupus) is tricky. These diseases often involve multiple proteins that are not unique to the condition and must be assessed collectively to give an impression of disease status that may not be totally reliable.
