Case study: high throughput sample analysis using the Gyrolab automated immunoassay platform

Written by Frontage Laboratories

Summary

This case study highlights the advantages of using the automated Gyrolab platform for an urgent PK immunoassay study over traditional ELISA and MSD platforms. Utilization of two automated Gyrolab machines allowed processing of ~800 samples per day, compared with 120 samples using traditional techniques.

Challenge

A Sponsor contracted Frontage on an urgent PK immunoassay study covering roughly 5000 samples to be analyzed within a two-month timeline. Using traditional ELISA or MSD platforms, it would take approximately one month to finish method development and validation and a fully experienced scientist would only have the capacity to analyze ~120 samples per day.

Solution

Based on our team’s experience in dealing with similar challenges and the known advantages of the advanced automation platform, Gyrolab, Frontage successfully completed this project. Frontage leveraged the ability of the platform to process one run per hour, utilizing two machines simultaneously with the maximum capability of processing close to 800 samples per day. The platform, using automated immunoassays with highly reproducible nanoliter microfluidics, guarantees data quality and fast turnaround time of deliverables to meet urgent timelines.

Result

Frontage’s operation team completed method development and validation in roughly two weeks, successfully meeting the sponsor’s pressing sample analysis timeline, while providing high quality and reproducible data with an ISR passing rate of over 90%. The first 1200 samples, which were most urgent in data submission, were done within 5 days.

Conclusion

Frontage’s Gyrolab operation team has the capability to process a large number of samples with uncompromised data quality to meet ad hoc timelines, effectively speeding up our clients’ drug development process.
