Emerging imaging technology improves stroke surveillance and accurately predicts recovery

Written by Fred Rann

Researchers at Harvard Medical School (MA, USA) have utilized radiomics, a novel image-quantifying technology, to extract biomarkers from clinical brain MRI scans and score an individual’s relative brain age. With global populations and life-expectancy ever increasing, the requirement for a sophisticated stroke screening method has become an imperative for healthcare professionals. The number of individuals within the European Union living with stroke has been estimated to rise by 27% from 2017–2047. This breakthrough method may alleviate the clinical reliance on chronological age, enhancing stroke surveillance and improving predictions on post-stroke recovery.
