“Clinical LC–MS analysis employing HRMS acquisitions for routine Quan/Qual analysis is on the horizon and the future will bring real progress built on the same foundation: targeted quantification and semi-quantitative metabotyping using high-resolution and accurate mass measurements.”
In 2002, a LC–MS facility was established at the University Hospital of Lausanne in Switzerland. The clinical laboratories mainly wanted to perform quantitative analysis, which made the choice of MS technology obvious: a triple-quadrupole MS (TQ-MS) instrument was selected. Indeed, TQ-MS are known for their high sensitivity and rapid ion transitions, making them the preferred instruments for targeted acquisition.
