Waters Corporation (MA, USA) announces the release of their new OligoWorks™ solid phase extraction (SPE) kits and components to help perfect sample preparation for LC-MS-based quantitation of oligonucleotides used in therapeutic delivery.

Biopharmaceutical companies and contract research organizations engaged in the development of oligonucleotide therapeutics will now achieve up to a twofold improvement in oligonucleotide recovery from biofluids, compared to other products on the market. The kits offer enhanced reproducibility and LC-MS sensitivity, allowing for lower limits of quantitation and minimization of repeat experiments. By standardizing protocols to reduce method development and sample processing time, the kits provide faster time-to-results for a broad range of bioanalysis projects.

The field of oligonucleotide therapeutics is growing rapidly, with 13 oligonucleotide therapies already approved by the FDA and more than 500 in development. Despite their potency, accurately measuring modified oligonucleotides during dosing, metabolism and tissue distribution studies poses significant challenges.

“As a leader in supporting drug development, Waters is committed to solving customer pain points and enabling greater analytical performance and productivity. Our new OligoWorks SPE Kits directly address oligonucleotide bioanalysis sample prep challenges across diverse oligo therapeutics,” explains Erin Chambers, Vice President, Consumables and Lab Automation, Waters Corporation. “The science and societal effects of these therapies are exploding given their ability to address human health issues. Our workflow and kits will drive an acceleration of oligo bioanalysis projects and drug development timelines; ultimately improving the experience for drug candidates.”

The OligoWorks SPE kit employs an advanced, detergent-free sample and enzyme-enhanced pre-treatment method, which reduces the number of washing steps and increases compatibility with mass spectrometers. The kit also facilitates direct injection LC-MS analysis and achieves lower limits of quantitation. Additionally, these kits can be automated for increased productivity or simply help to save scientists time by minimizing manual steps and oversight.
