Small molecule analysis using MS

Mass spectrometry (MS) is a powerful tool that routinely aids in the identification and quantification of the metabolites of drugs and drug candidates, and their interactions. In the pharmaceutical industry, MS provides quantitative information in support of PK/PD studies as well as toxicokinetic and bioequivalence data, all of which are fundamental to small molecule drug development.

Bioanalytical scientists must continue developing validated assays for safety and efficacy in order to meet the requirements for increasingly complex drug development programs. Advantages provided by MS to small molecule bioanalysis include sensitivity, selectivity, dynamic range and robustness, vital attributes for modern drug development programs.
